The cartesian plane is a visual representation for pairs of numbers ​(x,y)​ as a point on a plane. The ​x​-coordinate is represented by the horizontal position of the point, and the ​y​-coordinate by its vertical position.
The horizontal and vertical positions are measured by comparing the position of the point to the coordinate axes. The coordinate axes intersect at the origin ​(0,0).
