Graphing functions

All courses

Enter a function in the Y= / f(x) editor and plot it on a chosen viewing window.

Goal

Graph y=ln(x+5)+x2 on the window x[−3,3],  y[−2,12].

Open the Scratchpad's Graph view. From the Calculate scratchpad, press to flip pages, or go through the home screen: B: Graph Scratchpad. The cursor lands on the f1(x)= entry line. (If it shows something else, such as u1(n)=, the graph type has been changed: press 3: Graph Entry/Edit1: Function to get back.)

Insert the ln template by pressing then . The slot now reads ln(▯).

Type the argument of the log: . Press on the touchpad to leave the template, then to add the x2 term.

Press to register the function. The Nspire grays the entry line and starts plotting on its current window. If you need to fix the rule later, from the graph jumps the cursor back to the f1(x)= line.

Open 4: Window/Zoom1: Window Settings. Set XMin=-3, XMax=3, YMin=-2, YMax=12, moving between fields with ; leave the scale fields on Auto. to OK and press .
